Terms of Service
Last updated 18 August 2026
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are the agreement between you and milk money, a grocery budgeting app run by an independent developer. They cover your use of the app and everything in it. By creating an account or using milk money, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who can use milk money
You need to be at least 16, or the minimum age at which you can consent to the processing of your personal data where you live, whichever is higher. If you are using milk money on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms on its behalf.
2. Your account
You can use milk money without an account. If you do, your lists live only in your browser on that device. Creating an account lets your lists, history and settings sync across devices.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your password to yourself.
- Give us an accurate email address and keep it current — it is how you would recover access.
- Tell us at hclarke.dev@gmail.com if you think someone else has got into your account.
3. What milk money does — and what it does not
milk money is a planning and budgeting aid. It tracks what you plan to buy, what you spent, and how that compares against a budget you set yourself.
Prices in the app come from what you enter, from receipts you scan, and from a shared product catalogue. They are estimates. They can be out of date, wrong for your store, or wrong for your country. Treat the till receipt as the source of truth, not the app.
milk money is not financial, tax or investment advice, and nothing it shows is a promise about what you will actually be charged.
4. Receipt scanning
You can photograph a receipt and milk money will try to read the line items from it. To do that, our server sends the photo to OpenAI, which returns the extracted items. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what happens to the image.
- Scanning is best-effort. Models misread faded thermal print, glare and unusual layouts. Check the extracted items on the review screen before you save them — that step exists for this reason.
- Only upload receipts that are yours, or that you are otherwise allowed to upload.
- Do not upload images containing other people's personal information.
5. Acceptable use
While using milk money, please do not:
- break the law, or use the app to help someone else break it;
- try to reach accounts, data or parts of the service that are not yours;
- probe or test the security of the service, or work around any rate limit, quota or authentication check;
- scrape, bulk-download or resell the product catalogue or any other part of the service;
- upload malware or anything else designed to disrupt the service;
- drive the API with automated systems beyond ordinary personal use.
We may suspend or close accounts that do these things.
6. Your content stays yours
Your lists, price entries, history and receipt photos belong to you. We claim no ownership of them.
You give us permission to store, copy, process and display that content strictly in order to run the service for you — to sync it to your devices, show it back to you, and keep it backed up. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
7. Availability and changes
milk money is still evolving, and is offered on an as-is, as-available basis.
- Features may be added, changed or removed. Where a change materially reduces what you get, we will try to give reasonable notice.
- The app may be unavailable during maintenance, or for reasons outside our control.
- We cannot guarantee that data will never be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
8. Services we depend on
milk money relies on services run by other companies: Google for optional sign-in, OpenAI for reading receipt photos, and our hosting and database providers. Their own terms govern their part of the process, and we are not responsible for how they run their services.
9. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, milk money is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or the accuracy of the prices, totals or insights the app displays.
Some consumer-protection laws give you rights that cannot be excluded by agreement. Nothing here takes those away.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, for lost data, or for money you spent because a figure in the app turned out to be wrong.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using milk money at any time. To delete your account and everything stored with it, email hclarke.dev@gmail.com.
We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, or if we stop offering the service. The sections on content ownership, disclaimers and limitation of liability continue to apply after your account ends.
12. Changes to these Terms
We will update this page and the date above whenever these Terms change. If a change is significant, we will flag it in the app. Continuing to use milk money after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by European Union law together with the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the EU country where you live. If you are a consumer, nothing here removes your right to rely on those rules or to bring a claim before the courts of your own country.
